The HUB aka Hixson Union Building is the central place of the campus,

mainly because it contains the dining hall. However, it’s not only the dining hall, it also contains the post office where you can get news from friends and family but also receive all your books from Amazon. Amazon because it is a lot cheaper than the university bookstore, this bookstore is also located in the HUB, it has (nearly) all the books you need in stock but be ready to pay a lot. In this store there’s also some Whitworth merchandise: hoodies, T-shirt, tank tops for everyone and in all different styles. The HUB also contains the MPR (Multi-purpose room) which is kind of a small conference room or fancy dining hall for guest and other stuff. Upstairs there is student life where you can get your student ID with a wonderful picture (which for me is really the worst as I took it the first morning after my 24h journey and had no make-up on so I look completely dead tired).

Still, the HUB is mainly about food, there is the cafeteria but also an expensive coffee shop for anyone who wants something better than plain cheap black coffee, and by the way, my roommate works there. There is also another food stuff in which I’ve never been because basically, I have an unlimited food plan so even if the food is not always perfect at Saga (the previous name of the food company, because now it’s Sodexo), I still paid for it, so I may as well eat it. And I’m only here for 4 months so I’ll survive and go back home to get good food.

About the dining hall, it is kind of random I believe, the only thing I wasn’t expecting is those big soda machines where you can get any drink you want (except alcohol) for free. The only problem with those machines is that they are way too big for this school and so they run out of pretty much everything (once even water for a couple of minutes) all the time but it’s great to try on all those strange bright radioactive yellow drinks with paying for it.

About the food, it’s objectively not that bad if you’re an adult and like to eat lots of different thing, the problem is that I’m not and my diet only includes pasta and cheese. Every day you can find some kind of rice or noodles, then some potatoes, a lot of different (supposed to be-) cooked and raw vegetables, some kind of meat. There are also always burgers and fries and pizza which are really good but also so unhealthy. And anyway, if you can’t find anything good one day, there’s always a possibility to do sandwiches or just cereals.

For me, the best part about eating in a dining hall, after living 2 years on my own, is no cooking and especially, no dish washing. This is the most time saving stuff on earth, you go there, take food and then you only need to put your plate on a turning shelf and some nice people wash them for you. I will definitively be complicated to go back to hand washing everything, but I think that my typical pasta-cordon bleu is worth it.
